I must first thank all who served as officers and board members of Masters Swimming Canada during the past year and welcome the new members who are about to embark on their two year term of service as Board members. In particular I do want to recognize and acknowledge the significant contributions of Norm McKee who has served as Director of Operations. We are grateful that Lindsay Patten has agreed to take over this position to continue to develop and implement the programs of Masters Swimming Canada. I am appreciative of the leadership provided by our immediate past President Frank Coy, St. Catherines ON and delighted that he will continue as a member of the MSC Board. Brent Schurman, Summerside, PE, has provided diligent service as Treasurer over the past three years and we welcome newly elected Board member Carolyn Prebble, St. Catherines ON, who assumes this role. Also joining her, as new Board members are Christian Berger, Brossard, QC; Robert Diewold MD, Red Deer, AB; and Sylvie Potvin, Prévost, QC. Mark Sandilands, Lethbridge, AB will continue as Vice President; Jennifer Power-Hawrylak, Summerside, PE as Secretary; and Chris Smith, Toronto, ON , as Past President. Glen Mehus, Kelowna, BC and Mike Morrow, Calgary, AB are the current Council of Provinces representatives to the MSC Board.

One of my first duties as MSC President was to present the Hud Stewart Award at the 2008 Canadian Masters Swimming Championship banquet in Quebec City. The Hud Stewart Award is named in honour of James Innes ?Hud? Stewart the founder of the first Masters swimming club in Canada in 1972. This award recognizes outstanding contributions to Masters swimming in Canada. It was my pleasure to announce that the recipient this year was Beth Whittall who has played such a significant role in the development of Masters swimming in Canada.

As President I am committed, along with the Board and Director of Operations, to responding to the needs of our membership. One of the major purposes of the Council of Provinces (COP) is to act as a conduit for communication between the membership and the Board and vice versa. The Board meets monthly by telephone conference and once per year in face to face meetings. The WWW.MYMSC website will continue to act as the major communications vehicle for Masters Swimming in Canada. We will continue to provide information in both officials languages in as timely a fashion as our resources permit. I look forward to working with the Director of Operations and a dedicated team of volunteers in advancing the mission of Masters Swimming Canada.

Nigel Kemp,

President
